Wow Words... Need I say more? lol, but seriously, aren't you sick of your kids using happy, sad, good, bad? We told our classes it was time to SPICE it up! We taught them how to use a thesaurus to find interesting words. Then we split them up into groups of 2-3 to work on a Wow Word poster. They had to find the dull word in the thesaurus and then add all the Wow words around it. We reference these posters all the time and I must say... their writing is a lot more interesting to read!
We found these adorable Contraction Caterpillars on some one's blog. We just can't remember where! If it was your blog leave us a message so we can give you credit. We did a ton of contraction Smart Board games with our kids to really drive home the concept. At the end of the week we were ready for a craftivity! I'll let you in on a little secret... all you need to do is copy circles on a variety of different color construction paper and the kids do the rest!
